The Danish FDA found that only 6 out of 35 brands advertising themselves as containing extra virgin olive oil actually did. The Danish investigation also found that 12 out of these brands contained olive oil unsuitable for human consumption. Most of the guilty brands were private labels of bulk oil purposely packaged for leading Danish supermarkets, like Dansk Supermarked and Dagofra. However, Catherine Fogel, who analyzed the results, found that display and storage was a major contributing factor to the olive oils’ deterioration and quality dive. Heat, direct light and expired consumption dates greatly contributed to the alteration of the content’s characteristics.
